  • Until 1964 the Town of Eliot never had an organized Police Department
  • The department consisted of part time officers that operated independently without a Chief.
  • There were no regularly scheduled shifts for patrols. The town was policed by officers after attending other full time employment.  
  • The State Police handled accident investigations as well as, other violations which fell in the domain of a rural police department.
  • The Town of Eliot paid responding Officer's $1.25 an hour and 10 cents per mile.
  • In 1963 the cost of operating the Police Department totaled $1376.60.
